Minnesota traditionally has one of the most well educated and healthiest populations of any of the 50 states. I will pose my idea as a question, as there are thousands of local residents who know more about health care than I. If a new health care system is to be implemented, wouldn’t it be a better idea for us to design and implement a new, statewide system created by and for Minnesotans? Whether a modification of past or current systems, a true single payer system, or a hybrid like ‘Obamacare’, we could cut out the insurance and drug company middlemen and their wasteful, greedy, and redundant policies, passing the savings on to patients, doctors, nurses, and taxpayers. In theory we could opt out of any federal mandates, as I believe is now the case with the Federal Unemployment Tax Act, due to our state system being equal to or better than the federal one. Perhaps best of all, we could then tell the feds where to stick their expensive, corporate lobbyist written mandates.
